Black Obsidian Gemstone Sphere

With its deep black colouring and highly polished finish, this black obsidian sphere has a striking, mirror-like shine. Its smooth, rounded shape highlights the glassy character of obsidian, reflecting light across the surface. Display it on a suitable sphere stand as a bold accent on a shelf, desk or meditation space, or give it as a thoughtful gift for a gemstone collector.

Physical Properties

Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass composed mainly of silica. It has an amorphous structure rather than a crystalline one, with a typical hardness of around 5–5.5 on the Mohs scale. Shaping and polishing reveal its distinctive glassy lustre.

Geology & Formation

Obsidian forms when silica-rich lava cools so rapidly that crystals have little time to develop. This creates a natural glass, which can be cut, shaped and polished into decorative pieces such as this sphere.

Properties

In crystal traditions, black obsidian is associated with grounding, protection and honest self-reflection. It is often used as a symbolic focus during meditation or intention-setting. The sphere shape is traditionally associated with wholeness and balance. These are spiritual beliefs rather than scientifically established effects.
