Moldavite Specimen #2 - Czech Republic
The piece pictured is what you'll receive
Moldavite Specimen – Czech Republic
A genuine Czech Moldavite tektite. Approximately 15 million years ago, a meteorite impact over the Bohemian region of the Czech Republic generated temperatures and pressures sufficient to fuse surrounding rock and soil into a glass that was ejected into the atmosphere and rained back to earth — that glass is Moldavite. Each specimen carries the characteristic forest-green translucency and sculpted, wrinkled surface texture that authenticate it as genuine tektite. A piece of real cosmic and geological significance, equally at home in a collector’s cabinet or as an exceptional gift.
Physical Properties
- Moldavite (Tektite) — Chemical composition: silica-rich glass (SiO₂ ~80%), with aluminium, iron, and trace elements; Hardness: 5–5.5 Mohs; Crystal system: amorphous (glassy); Lustre: vitreous; Transparency: transparent to translucent; Colour: forest green to olive green, occasionally brownish-green
Geology & Formation
Moldavite is a tektite — a natural glass formed by the heat and pressure of a meteorite impact rather than by volcanic or hydrothermal processes. The Nördlingen meteorite impact, approximately 14.8 million years ago, struck the Bohemian Massif with such force that it vaporised and melted surrounding rock, projecting molten material into the upper atmosphere. As this material cooled rapidly during re-entry, it solidified into aerodynamically shaped glass fragments that scattered across a strewn field covering parts of the Czech Republic, Austria, and Germany. The Czech Republic — particularly the South Bohemian and Moravian regions — remains the sole primary source of gem-quality Moldavite in the world. Genuine specimens are increasingly rare as surface deposits become depleted.
Crystal Properties
Moldavite is regarded in crystal lore as one of the most powerful and high-vibrational stones available, carrying an energy that practitioners describe as intense, transformative, and distinctly extraterrestrial. It is strongly associated with the heart chakra and is said to catalyse rapid spiritual evolution, synchronicity, and meaningful life change. Used in energy work for releasing deep blockages and accelerating personal growth, it is often recommended for experienced crystal practitioners. Its rarity, origin, and metaphysical reputation make it one of the most sought-after specimens in the crystal world.
