Geology & Formation

Orthoceras are extinct cephalopod molluscs from the Ordovician period, approximately 400–470 million years ago. Their elongated, chambered shells became entombed in marine sediment, gradually mineralising into the dark limestone matrix characteristic of these specimens. The finest examples originate from the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, where ancient seabeds have been exposed by erosion, yielding fossils of exceptional clarity and preservation. Each piece is hand-carved and polished to reveal the intricate internal structure of the fossil.
