Very Large Amethyst Church Geode

A towering cathedral of crystal. This is a full-height amethyst church geode, cut open to reveal a deep arched cavity packed from top to bottom with thousands of sparkling points. The colour runs smoky and soft here rather than vivid violet, shifting through pale lilac, silvery grey and warm champagne, with a dark skin on the outside. Light catches hundreds of facets at once, so the whole interior seems to shimmer as you move past it. At roughly 34.5kg and tall enough to stand on the floor beside a chair, this is a true architectural centrepiece for a hallway, showroom, studio or treatment room.

Amethyst geodes like this one formed inside gas bubbles trapped in ancient volcanic lava flows. As the rock cooled, silica-rich water seeped into the hollow cavity and crystals grew slowly inwards from the walls over millions of years, with traces of iron and natural radiation giving amethyst its purple tone. Brazil's Rio Grande do Sul region is the classic source for these tall, arched "church" or "cathedral" forms, which are cut and stood upright to show the cavity.

About the Grade

This is a 3rd grade piece, meaning the colour is paler and smokier than top-grade deep purple cathedrals and there is natural variation across the crystal bed. That is exactly what makes a geode of this size attainable, and the scale and sparkle still carry a room.

Amethyst is traditionally associated with calm, clarity and protection. Large geodes are often placed in a home or workspace as a grounding focal point, believed to soothe a busy mind, support restful sleep and clear the atmosphere of a room. These are long-standing beliefs rather than proven medical facts.
