Whole Polished Ammonite Fossil from Madagascar

This striking whole polished ammonite makes a beautiful natural-history display piece, with a classic spiral centre surrounded by intricate, frilled suture lines. The face is filled with warm honey-gold and amber tones, deeper caramel-brown shading and a contrasting cream-grey central coil, while the darker outer section adds depth and character. At approximately 80mm, it has plenty of visual presence for a shelf, cabinet, desk or fossil collection.

Geology & Formation

Ammonites are extinct marine molluscs that lived in the world's oceans before becoming extinct alongside the dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous Period. Over immense periods of time, their coiled shells were buried and fossilised. This specimen comes from Madagascar, a region known for producing beautifully patterned ammonites and other remarkable fossils.
